Clara Esborraz
1991, Rafaela

Clara Esborraz (Rafaela, 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist. Their work explores drawing, performance, and sculpture, creating imaginaries where reality and fiction intertwine to give rise to the unknown. In their production, they combine autobiographical elements with eerie details, such as melted bodies and dislocated objects. Their graphic work approaches drawing as a tool for self-knowledge and investigates the political agency of everyday and accessible materials like pens, A4 paper, and colored pencils. In their performances, Esborraz uses their own body and that of others to bring characters trapped in repetitive situations to life, accompanied by texts that reflect on the complexities of human relationships, the cities we live in, art, and the passage of time in contemporary life. The characterization of these characters is fundamental to their work, where they explore the mutability of gender and identity through clothing and customizations.
A graduate of the National University of Rosario, Esborraz attended the Artist Program at the Torcuato Di Tella University in 2017, the URRA Tigre Residency in 2018, and the Gasworks Residency in 2023. They recently received the 2024 Artist Fellowship from the Ama Amoedo Foundation. Notable exhibitions include: PREMIO BRAQUE 2023 (MUNTREF, 2023), “El fin de la ciudad” (PIEDRAS, 2022), and “La hora rota” (Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, 2019). Esborraz’s work is part of public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, the Torcuato Di Tella Institute, and the Castagnino+Macro Museum.
