Josefina Labourt
1985, Buenos Aires

Josefina Labourt (Buenos Aires, 1985) is an artist who investigates the complexities of corporeality and language through various operations and materialities, including collage, oil, resin, paper-mâché, and video. This material experimentation is reflected in her works through the inclusion of organic elements such as flowers, tree bark, and eggshells. In her encounters with the viewer, the works propose a visceral and affective experience, disturbing normative aesthetic orders as well as the viewer’s own bodily perception. Skin—as a limit and point of contact with other bodies, as well as a record of memories in its folds and wounds—serves as a recurring motif in her work. Her recent projects explore themes related to aging and femininity, addressing both individual physical experiences and social constructs.

Labourt holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (Argentina) and an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London (UK). She has exhibited her work both locally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions at venues such as PIEDRAS (2019-2021), Swivel Gallery (New York, 2024), Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (2022-23), Museo Larreta (2021), Galería BARRO (2019), Centro Cultural Recoleta (2019), Palais de Tokyo (2018), the Nexialism Center for Research (Paris, 2016), and Macro Museo Castagnino (2013), among others.
