Mónica Heller
1975, Buenos Aires
Mónica Heller (1975, Buenos Aires) is a drawer, painter, and video artist known for her work in 2D and 3D animation, created using amateur techniques and CGI from open-access libraries. Heller’s self-taught approach to digital technology, combined with her artisanal dedication, defines her DIY work ethic, setting her apart within the Argentine art scene. Both her animations and paintings present surreal and absurd scenarios where sharp humor coexists with the surreal and the uncanny.
A graduate of the Universidad Nacional de las Artes, Heller participated in the inaugural edition of the Artist Program at the Torcuato Di Tella University. Her career includes numerous accolades, including grants from institutions such as the MMSN Foundation and the Fortabat Foundation. Heller is also recognized for her collaborative projects, co-developing the animated series “Ciudad Elemental” with Marcelo Galindo. She is a member of the experimental drawing collective “Geometría Pueblo Nuevo.” Her works have been exhibited throughout Argentina and internationally in cities like Barcelona, Santiago de Chile, London, China, and Switzerland, among others. In 2022, she represented Argentina at the Venice Biennale with a solo exhibition in the Argentine Pavilion at the Arsenale. In 2024, she will participate in the FAAP artistic residency in São Paulo.
